GCWSR Dedication Day

On 8th March 2016, Gold Coast was officially endorsed as the 8th World Surfing Reserve, an area of 16 kilometres from Burleigh Beach to Snapper Rocks Qld/NSW border and the central breaks inbetween. A Dedication Ceremony was held at Point Danger on the Queensland border, attended by the Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk, her Government State Minister of Environment Dr Steve Miles, State MPs Mick de Brennin, Michael Hart and Jann Stuckey, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, together with GCWSR Patron Wayne “Rabbit“ Bartholomew, President of the International Surfing Association Fernando Aguerre and many other invited guests.

Despite the inclement weather, it was impossible to dampen the spirits of the local community who had worked so hard to achieve this fantastic result.
