Sport Science Manager, Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre and Associate Professor, Edith Cowan University

Sophia Nimphius, PhD is the Sport Science Manager at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre. She is also an Associate Professor at Edith Cowan University (ECU) with expertise in biomechanics, coaching and sport technology. She has worked with Surfing Australia since 2011 and previously worked in elite sport in the USA and Australia with various national, international teams and professional sporting organisations. Her formal qualifications include a PhD in Sports Science, MSc in Exercise Science and BSc in Sports Management and BSc in Biology. She is an Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Elite Professional Coach (PCAS-Elite) and a Level 2 Accredited Sports Scientist (ASpS2) and High Performance Manger (AHPM) with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). As a sport scientist, Sophia has published over 75 peer-reviewed research articles and several book chapters on the topics of athlete testing, sport technology, coaching and sports biomechanics.
