Minister’s Welcome

Minister's Welcome

Message from the Minister for Tourism and Major Events
The Honourable Kate Jones MP

Welcome to the Currumbin RSL for the first International Surfing Symposium on the Gold Coast.

This event opens Queensland’s doors to informed discussions around surf zone and environmental preservation, as well as promoting the cultural and community benefits of surfing areas in the State.

Leading into the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro events on the Gold Coast, this business event is a valuable resource for Queensland’s tourism economy and we welcome all our visitors from interstate and around the world.

The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support events such as this through Tourism and Events Queensland, which support visitation and expenditure in Queensland, showcase the Gold Coast and its surrounding destinations, and create jobs.

I hope you enjoy your time on the Gold Coast and I encourage you to stay on and explore the many tourism experiences on offer throughout the destination.

The Hon Kate Jones MP

Queensland Minister for Tourism and Major Events

Message from the Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection and Minister for National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef
The Hon. Steven Miles MP

"The inaugural International Surfing Symposium is an exciting innovative event that brings together the World Surfing Champions and highly qualified Academics to discuss the issues and concerns of our ocean environment and the awareness it brings for all the public who enjoy the coastal beach and surf lifestyle.

We congratulate the Gold Coast World Surfing Reserve for its initiative, which is in association with the Global Wave Conference in Santa Cruz, California later this year.

It was one of Labor’s election commitments to support the World Surfing Reserve, and the Queensland Government is pleased to see issues like the eradication of plastics in the ocean will be addressed at the two day conference."
